Over-Dimensional & Permitted Loads
Anything past legal - wider than 8'6", taller than 13'6", longer than the trailer allows, or heavier than 80,000 gross - is a permit load. Every state on the route has its own rules, its own hours, its own escort requirements. Our job is to know that before the truck is loaded, not after.
What rides on it
- Wide loads: tanks, structural assemblies, modular pieces
- Tall loads: equipment, vessels, prefab
- Long loads: beams, trusses, pipe on stretch trailers
- Heavy loads on multi-axle configurations
- Combinations - wide and heavy is the normal case
Spec sheet
- Permits
- Multi-state, pulled by the carrier for the specific route and dates
- Escorts
- Front and rear pilot cars, height poles, police escort where a state requires it
- Weight
- Permitted up to about 150,000 lbs
- Lanes
- Michigan to Florida and everything east of it - the Great Lakes down through the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida, plus the Northeast.
How we run it
- 01
Dimensions first, always. A quarter inch over a threshold can add a state's escort requirement, and that changes the price and the day.
- 02
The carrier pulls the permits and hires the escorts. We coordinate the whole thing around your schedule: which days the load can legally move, daylight-only states, curfews around cities, holiday shutdowns.
- 03
You get one point of contact from quote to delivery. If a permit office is slow or a route gets denied, we tell you what it does to the date the same day we find out.
Questions shippers ask us
How fast can you quote?
Send us origin, destination, dimensions, weight and when it needs to move. Standard open deck usually comes back the same business day. Permitted over-dimensional takes longer because the route and permits drive the price - we'll tell you up front how long we need.
Do you handle the permits and escorts?
The carrier pulls the permits and books the escorts, and we coordinate around them - route, dates, permit windows, where the pilot cars meet the truck. You deal with us, not five different offices.
Why does an OD quote take longer?
Because the price depends on the route, and the route depends on the permits. We'd rather take the time and quote it right than guess and come back to you with a change.
What are the limits before something needs a permit?
Roughly: 8'6" wide, 13'6" tall, 80,000 lbs gross, and length limits that vary by trailer and state. Past any one of those, it's permitted. Send dimensions and we'll tell you where you land.
How do you vet the carriers you put on my freight?
Every carrier is checked before they get a load - authority, insurance on file for the commodity, safety record, and whether they've actually run this kind of freight. Open deck is not the place for a first-timer. If a carrier doesn't clear, they don't get the load, no matter how cheap the truck is.
What's your on-time record?
We track on-time pickup and delivery on every load and will show you our current numbers when we talk. If a load is going to be late, you hear it from us before you'd have to ask.
Have a over-dimensional load?
Send us the dimensions and the date. We'll take it from there.
